YALA NATIONL PARK

   Ruhuna National Park at Yala is Sri Lanka's most popular wild life safari destination . Yala national park,  one of Sri Lanka 's premier eco tourism destinations, lies 24km northeast of Tissamaharama and 290km from Colombo on the southeast coast of Sri Lanka, spanning a vast 97,878 hectares over the Southern and Uva    Provinces   

There is also a substantial elephant population along with Spotted deer, Sambar, Wild buffalo, Sloth bear, Jackal, Mongoose, Pangolins and Crocodiles. The bird life comprises over 120 species, and ranges from Lesser Flamingos to Paradise Flycatchers, Crested Hawk Eagles, and Black Bitterns. Outside of the park are several other fascinating birding locations, including the ancient hermitage of Sithulpahuwa, Debarawewa.

                                 

JUNGLE FOWL

            

The Jungle fowl has been named, as the National Bird of sri lanka.This Brid is rather small than the fowl domesticated. Normally,Jungle fowl is spread throughout the Island,but seen frequently in the day zone forests of yala and wilpattu.normally likes to live isolated,however,now and then frequents the villages searghing for food.

                                                       

ELEPHANTS

Elephants are the biggest animals that walk on land. One fully grown elephant can weigh as much as 85 adult humans. Elephants are also very tall. They can be as high as 3.5 metres.during the day,elephants usually stay in the forests. They shelter there from the heat of the sun. At other times, they come into the open country where they like to eat the grass.In the early mornings and the late afternoons, when the sun is not so strong,elephants go to rivers or  big waterholes.
